Raphaël Perron-Constant
Painting has been a part of my life since childhood. In my work, themes of nature, intimacy, sorrow, and solitude recurrently emerge.
My paintings incorporate shapes that represent various body parts. In some, people are easily recognizable, while in others, circles and lines abstractly convey facial features and expressions. Individuals can be seen having intercourse, holding hands, or fighting.
I am drawn to minimalism and prefer to paint exclusively in black and white to commit to monochrome art. Despite the limited colour palette, I find that monochrome art can have a powerful impact on the viewer and evoke just as many emotions and sensations. To imbue my paintings with texture and dimensionality, I use a diverse array of mediums: oil pastels, China ink, sprayed acrylic graffiti paint, liquid acrylic paint, as well as conventional acrylic and oil paint.
