About the Artist

Roma Romanov, b. 1989, is a russian-danish artist. Originally from Saint Petersburg, from where he graduated with a Master of Fine Arts as monumental painter from the prestigious Art Academy, Ilya Repin. Since 2015 he has lived in Copenhagen with his wife and children.

His passion for visual form language and great curiosity within mythology and cultural heritage, has resulted in several series of colourful paintings, drawings, installations and sculptures, where layers are to be investigated and re-visited to discover yet hidden references or symbols.

The serie “North”, presented at ArtNordic 2022, are images intertwined with his personal experience in scandinavian culture reflected in psychological drawings. Based on the nordic mythology, with tales about the connection between the world of fire and the world of ice, the pieces are centered around the complex figure of a person who is alone with himself or in a community. This reflect the process of the psychological state, feelings and experiences that he gets.
