I start everything by using the body as a frame
I use my art to give votes for shadow sides and barn them speak, but at the same time do not let they lead me astray through the labyrinths of life. It pulls you into a world of dualities, where the shadow is not just one dark reflection, but also a important narrator of interior truths. Katinka K. Olrik (@katinka.olrik) studies at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam for art and design. She works across the board of media, including performance, installation, video, sculpture and painting. She explores materials and lets them incorporate into her works. By exploring different materials a conversation occurs between Katinka and the material, et cooperation where both parties have impression on the process and the finished product expression. Conversation with the material explores the consequences of experiments and tests who help to create it finite expressions that allow themselves to be led of an inner force. Katinka always starts by using the body as a frame in its expression. The body is the only thing there follows us through life for each single step, from the first moment to the last second, the body is our shield, protection and home. The body learns all our memories and traumas that are stored in the way we walk, stand and meet the world. The body carries us and our memories through life in one constantly transforming state, where we tear off our skin again and again in a perpetual state of metamorphosis.
