About BMW Art Cars: A fusion of art and technology

BMW Art Cars were introduced by French racing driver Hervé Poulain, who wanted to combine art and racing cars. The first Art Car was created in 1975 by American artist Alexander Calder, who decorated a BMW 3.0 CSL. This car was driven in the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year, marking the start of a series of artistically designed cars that function as both high-performance race cars and rolling works of art.

This year, three iconic BMW Art Cars were exhibited at ArtExperience in the BMW Experience Center, Jan Nygaard AS: Alexander Calder’s BMW 3.0 CSL from 1975, Andy Warhol’s BMW M1 from 1979, and Jeff Koons’ BMW M3 GT2 from 2010. These cars represent some of the most remarkable works in the series and attracted a lot of attention from art and car enthusiasts alike.
